Cervical mucus: Things it does for your sexual health

Cervical mucus may seem like a useless liquid of your lady bits but it serves more purpose than you know. Secreted from the opening of the uterus it comes out as vaginal discharge. Cervical mucus can be of various textures ranging from sticky, creamy, watery, stretchy, or slippery. These changing consistencies may mean something. Let’s decode that here.
Dr. Santosh Gupta, Fertility Consultant at Nova IVF fertility, Koramangala in Bengaluru, says, “During the period when a woman is fertile, the mucus has a slippery and watery appearance whereas the mucus has a thick or pasty appearance if a woman isn’t fertile.. The composition and quality of a woman’s cervical mucus fluctuate concerning texture, volume, and colour throughout her menstrual cycle by hormones such as estrogen. Keeping track of cervical mucus and observing the changes may allow you to predict or identify the most fertile days in your cycle.”
